Combine Update: Te’o Drops the Bomb… (On himself)

On February 25th. 2013, Notre Dame Football Captain Emeritus Manti Te’o had to travel a mere two and a half hours south from his school to show up at the NFL Combine Monday. Many would call that a home field advantage. How do teams and players use the home field advantage? They invite family from all around the country, they make plans after the game, and they play like champion in front of a friendly crowd that roars with cheers. They come out on fire waiting to make the play of the game. That’s how others would use a two and a half car ride south to Indianapolis, IN.
According to Yahoo sports Manti Te’o will not be competing in the bench and most recently NFL.com put his 40 yard dash at 4.82 seconds. I am not expecting Bo Jackson’s time and I not expecting Anthony Munoz’s bench but we need to be real here. The 40 is the combine This is downright irresponsible. It is irresponsible to the millions of youth who are wearing your jersey. You are unfolding before the nation. You are quitting on them and you are letting yourself down. This is unacceptable!  Te’o is so much better than that. I can pull off a sub five 40 right now, and I am blogging!!  I am no super athlete and it’s not saying much to run a sub 5 forty. As a matter of fact more than many High School Offensive Linemen can pull that off. Notre Dame would have never recruited you if that was all you could do. I sense a much deeper issue. Call the Archbishop crazy as some do, but I would not be on a limb to say that Te’o is totally mentally spent. What we see here is mental defeat. Kid yourself not and I hope I am wrong but I know I’m right. Its one thing when a bigger and stronger opponent buries you every play (we have all been there) but when the spirit is broken…God help you! My sense is that he is not ready to play professional football at this time and with his head in the clouds he may very well get hurt. I once described Te’o as the closest player I have ever seen to Junior Seau. Manti Te’o could not hold Junior Seau’s jockstrap!

I think your being a little hard on Manti Te’o. I don’t think it is the end of the world he ran a 4.8. He will be an inside line backer on a 3-4 defense. ( No 4-3 defense will take him due to 40 yard dash or lack of size). Lets not forget what Jerry Rice ran his 40 yard dash in…I think he ended up doing pretty well.

On a side not, I would like to see some video of you running a 4.8!
