NFL Coaches Fired

NFL Coaches Fired

Jan 3, 2012

A big slew of coaches and front office personal across the NFL have started as teams already eliminated from playoff contention start prepping for the off season.

Tony Sparano was fired in Miami I think it’s safe to say everyone saw this coming. I however do think he will get a shot as an assistant somewhere or maybe even a head coach in the NCAA. His now ex team did win six of their last nine games after starting the season 0-7. Miami is apparently in talks now with Tennessee Titans ex-coach Jeff Fisher, although Brian Billick has also been rumored to be interested in the job.

Raheem Morris is out in Tampa Bay. The youngest head coach that also the youngest team in the NFL has been fired after a dismal 4-12 season this year after posting a 10-6 record in the 2010 season. Tampa is a talented young team, LeGarrette Blount is an amazing talent and wasn’t even drafted! They have a lot of talent they just need some key pieces and to play in a division that doesn’t have QB Drew Brees in it.

St. Louis has fired coach Steve Spagnuolo  and their GM Billy Devaney  after neither could get even close to a winning record. This team has been rebuilding for about six years now. That’s a long rebuild, they need to pull their heads out of the sand and get as much talent around Sam Bradford as possible in the next couple seasons and they could make some playoff appearances.

In Indianapolis Vice Chairman Bill Polian and his son and Colts GM Chris Polian were both fired after Indianapolis had a horrible 2-14 season without QB Peyton Manning. Head coach Jim Caldwell gets to keep his job for now but if I were him I’d start prepping for the big axe. Now that the Polians are out a lot of people are starting to believe the Colts will draft Stanford QB Andrew Luck #1 overall in the draft next spring to replace Manning. The question is will they keep Manning or send him packing too? Things could get very interesting depending on their chocies the next 3-4 months.

The San Diego Chargers have decided to keep head coach at Norv Turner  least one more season. I can see not wanting to start from scratch with a new coach and a new system but he’s 48-31 in five seasons with this team. Not horrible numbers but not stellar either. How much longer can this franchise hold on hoping he’ll deliver a Super Bowl team?

These are just some examples of what is transpiring around the league as the majority of the teams look to building a better team to try again next year.
