New York Football Giants Last Chance for Redemption

Tonight marks the first night of the New Year. It also is the last chance that the Giants can redeem their season. All that stands in their way is America’s Team and #1 rival the Dallas Cowboys. Both teams have weathered the storm that was the 2011 season. The “Dream Team” Philadelphia Eagles were touted to take the NFC East on their way through the NFC playoffs and the Super Bowl title. But the Eagles faltered early and often which left the unlikely Washington Redskins with the division lead through the first month of the long season. It was perseverance on the part of the Giants and Cowboys that have left them as the only teams standing in the ring so to speak. It may take all 60 minutes of regulation time and some overtime but one team will punch their ticket to “the tournament” as former Giants and Cowboys coach Bill Parcells has said.

The only way of describing the Giants season is a roller coaster ride through success, mediocrity, and failure. The Giants must use their experiences of failure and success from the previous 15 games in reaching their preseason goal of winning the NFC East. Tonight is all hands on deck as they say. If they can run they can play. Being able to walk won’t get it done. Tom Coughlin needs all the Giants weapons at his disposal.

I feel that the Giant defense can pressure Cowboys QB Tony Romo . I feel that the home crowd can influence the flow of the Cowboys offense by being extremely noisy. The return of DE  Osi Umenyiora will also make things difficult for  Romo . Add that to the fact that DE Justin Tuck is coming off his best game of the season and the Pro Bowl season DE Jason Pierre-Paul  has had ,it may near impossible for the Dallas passing offense to function. The Dallas running game will be bolstered by RB Felix Jones, so cut back runs, delays/draws, and screen plays will need to be defensed by Big Blue.

A balanced Giant attack will win this game. The Giants were without Ahmad Bradshaw  when they mounted an improbable comeback late in the 4th quarter of their first matchup with the Cowboys one month ago.  Brandon Jacobs  has been running hard for the last month, a return to form in essence. Another addition to the Giants offense is WR Mario Manningham who’s made quite a few splash plays against the Cowboys in his short career. QB Eli Manning ,still prone for mistakes though not as much this season, needs to take care of the ball. A turnover here or there can knock the GMen out. This figures to be a high scoring affair separated by 3 or 4 pts. The last team with the ball may be the winner. Giants 34 Cowboys 30
