NY Giants Look to Payback Washington from Week 1

Dec 18, 2011

No matter who the opponent is the GMen need wins. It just so happens that this week’s opponent are the division rival Washington Redskins. The same team that dealt NYG an opening game loss at FedEx Field in Landover,Md. Obviously a lot has changed since then. The Giants went through their gauntlet of opponents and find themselves virtually even with Dallas for the NFC East Division. The Redskins have not fared well at all since their 3-0 start to the 2011 season. Some may say they are right where most analysts had them pegged at 4-9. But the Giants can’t let that record fool them. Defenders Ryan Kerrigan and Brian Orakpo have recorded 7 and 6 sacks respectively. On the offensive side the  Washington running game has taken a turn for the better with the play of RB Roy Helu a threat to carry the ball but also catch it too as he approaches 1000 all-purpose yards. WR Santana Moss is healthy and capable of turning a quick pass into 6 points.

The Giants need their steadily improving running game to wear down the Washington defense and as I’ve said many times, shorten the game. QB Eli Manning has been able to move the GMen through the air but I’m sure a better running game to mix in would help the offense even more. All weapons will be at his disposal. The Giants defense will be bolstered by the presence of DE Justin Tuck. He can help fellow DE Jason Pierre-Paul continue wreaking havoc by drawing the occasion 2 blocker scheme. By putting pressure on the Redskins QB Rex Grossman the Giants should be able to force a few turnovers. If the GMen take care of the ball as well than their payback to Redskins is all but assured.
