Notre Dame hosted Air Force Saturday at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, IN. In front of a roaring crowd just shy of 80,000 people. Tommy Rees did another excellent job of spreading the bowl around to all of his offensive weapons. The now confident and poised sophomore did not turn over the ball this week. We saw occasional appearances made by third quarterback Hendrix. Hendrix is obviously an accomplished young running quarterback who did much damage in the little time he played. At the end of the first quarter Air Force had a great drive which brought them to a score into the start of the second quarter. Outside of that drive they were unimpressive. Notre Dame played better defense against the triple option in the second quarter. The defense looked unpracticed in the first quarter. A blocked field goal and on sidekick recovery were just two of the excellent special teams that Notre Dame played, although the Falcons had a successful fake punt (not cool).
When triple option football is done correctly the ball is extremely hard to follow as fans and cameramen alike found out this week. Theo Riddick was all over the field this week; he had an amazing touch down at the end of the half. Air Force managed to score 17 points in the fourth quarter. One can’t really look at the defense because all substitutions were in at that point. This game was an offensive explosion for both teams! Not an exciting game, but if you play an offensive position or are fans of the offense of side of the ball…this was your game to watch. Think Coach Kelly cares about making enemies with a 59 point rout? I’ll take the win at 4-2

Okay ND fans, let’s not get too excited… it is only the Air Force Academy!

Can someone tell me why we are playing the service academies?…I’ll save that rant for another day.
