The NY Giants are going in to Philadelphia on Sunday afternoon with revenge on their minds. They have gone 6 games without a win in this series. Eagles QB Michael Vick, who sustained a concussion last Sunday night against the Atlanta Falcons, will start. Vick should be his escape from the pressure type self. He’s never been a straight dropback passer. According to the NY Post, when asked about the elusive Eagle QB, defensive tackle Chris Canty said “he’s not going to change, even though that leaves him open to big hits. So we’ve got to take advantage of that.” Canty is correct the GMen need to surround Vick but force him to roll/run to his right. If he goes to his left he can shred an opposing defense. I don’t believe in designating a defender to “spy” on Vick. I think that would leave the defense vulnerable for runs for big gains by RB Lesean McCoy. I also think that any spy tactics may leave TE Brent Celek as well as WR’s DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin wide open for those 20+ yard pass plays the Giant defense has given up with regularity this season.
Giants DE Osi Umenyiora will not play and neither will WR Mario Manningham. They will also be without PR/WR Dominic Hixon who was placed on IR this week. The Giants will have Brandon Stokley starting opposite Hakeem Nicks at receiver. This is Stokley’s 2nd game with the Giants. He’ll have to be up to speed as the Eagles will probably stack 8 defenders in the box. This will leave Nicks and or Stokley one on one with Philly CBs Nnamdi Asomugha and Asante Samuel. The Giants may have their pass catching TE Travis Beckum back in the lineup. That will surely help as will the growth of 3rd receiver Victor Cruz. The Giants of the first 2 weeks don’t look ready to keep this game close but the pure emotion of this rivalry may make the impossible possible.
