NY Giants Week 2 Recap

NY Giants Week 2 Recap

Sep 21, 2011

The New York Football Giants were victorious over the Saint Louis Rams this past Monday night. At halftime the 1986 Super Bowl champion Giants team celebrated the 25th anniversary of their historic season. Even though the current team won by a score of 28-16, Giant fans can only dream about playing. meaningful games in December and January. I say this because once again the Giant defense gave up too many completions of 20 or more yards. Starting cornerback Aaron Ross was benched for a few series because of shoddy play. The D-Line of the Giants were able to get some hits on Rams QB Sam Bradford, including two sacks by DE Justin Tuck who had sat out last week. Newcomer WR Brandon Stokley did not record a catch but did draw a penalty that gave the Giants a first down. The injury bug continued to nip as WR Mario Manningham had a neck injury according to him. However he did not pass the medical staff’s battery of tests for a concussion. That kept him out of the game and may keep him out of the next week’s game at Philly. Also injured, while making an amazing TD catch, was fellow receiver Dominic Hixon. He was said to have a knee issue though he has said it was a calf injury.
Overall the Giants were average at best. It was a victory to stay out of an 0-2 hole to start the season. However the team must get better. The Rams turned the ball over once on a muffed punt and the other time was a failed backwards pass scooped up by LB Michael Boley and returned for a TD. I won’t say the Giants were lucky because that would disrespect the effort that they put forth. I’ll just say that they were good enough this time but better is needed.
