Giants Are Stoked for Monday Night (Week 2 Preview)

Sep 19, 2011

A 16 game schedule seems to be a long enough time to get all the cylinders firing. But in the NFC and the NFC Eastern division in particular time is of the essence. The NY Giants have addressed their prolonged need of a receiver to go between the numbers and be QB Eli Manning’s security blanket. That receiver is 35 yr old move the chains” receiver extraordinaire Brandon Stokley. The Giant offense is counting on the stats not lying. Stokley’s speak volumes since 246 out of his 338 receptions have gained a 1st down. Maybe the crafty vet can teach the younger receivers on the team his knack for making the clutch catch?

On the injury front DE Justin Tuck did participate in full pads practice on Thursday according to nj.com. He will most likely play. Giant receiver Hakeem Nicks has also been participating in practices and should be ready for the game. Also quoted on that same website was Rams QB Sam Bradford”s status according to St Louis’ head coach(former Giant D Coordinator) Steve Spagnuolo. He said that “he’s throwing the football which is encouraging. He’s bounced back. We’ll see what happens in practice.” Spagnuolo said the team will be careful with RB Steven Jackson (quad), who will go through a pre-game workout to determine if he is good to go. If he can’t go most of the Ram carries will be taken by former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Cadillac Williams. Rams receiver Danny Amendola is listed as doubtful.

In Week 1 the Giants only ran for 75 yards on 20 carries but 2 of them resulted in a TD(Bradshaw & Manning). The running game was working but somehow left out of the gameplan in second half. I believe that the Giants will return to a more balanced attack  if not a run-heavy one on Monday night. The Giants defense held the Redskins to less than 100 yards rushing but were shredded by the pass game. I think the Giants dial up a few more blitzes but will be able to create more pressure from the front four with Tuck in the game. Another week another golden chance to win. The G-Men should be stoked for this one!
