Will Roethlisberger Have His Starting Position?

The Steelers are sitting pretty at 3-0, which is a surprising start for a team who lost their starting quarterback (Roethlisberger) to suspension, two of their backups (Leftwich and Dixon) to knee injuries, and is now on their fourth quarterback (Charlie Batch) who probably thought he know longer had a spot on the team. Batch shocked us all yesterday in Tampa Bay guaranteeing that the Steelers are at least 3-1 if not 4-o when Big Ben makes his return.

According to most sports columns, the Steelers should have been satisfied with going 2-2 before the return of Roethlisberger. However, the Steelers look like they are defending a Superbowl title and the Steelers are not surprised. They are most certainly not the team they were last year as they watched the post-season from the comfort of their own living rooms.

If you are a Steelers fan or a Roethlisberger hater, you have to wonder what was going through Ben’s mind yesterday as he watched Batch throw touchdown after touchdown pass. If you checked out a Pittsburgh radio station early this morning, you probably got a good laugh. If you are a Big Ben supporter, you too are a sex offender according to a caller on a Pittsburgh morning show.

Tomlin has been asked about Ben getting his starting job back. His answer was that he is thinking about now and not then. He is playing in the present not the future. Given the circumstances and the quarterback situation Tomlin cannot help but laugh.

While nothing is a guarantee in this league, a few short weeks and we will have are answer. Will Ben mess with the offensive rhythm we say in Tampa? Will he be rusty? Or will Big Ben be in the best shape of his life?

All the Steelers need is one more victory to be off to their best start in 31 years and Roethlisberger has not even taken the field yet.
