Week 2  pac-10

Washington Huskies- Offense looked good against a weak Syracuse team. The offense definitely has talent but consistency may be a problem all year. The defense is playing strong as well. Next week’s game against Nebraska should be a good barometer for how the year should go for this team. If the offense shows up and they challenge of possibly upset Nebraska, we will know that they will be pretty good this year and can play with anyone. If the Huskies get blown out, it will be the same team of the past few years, on one week, off the next. I think they have a good chance for an upset next weekend.

Cal – Questions about offensive consistency, especially at quarterback, may have been answered. The offense has looked really good the first two games. Defense also looked great, allowing only ten points combined in two games. Granted the competition was clearly over matched talent-wise, still it is a good sign when the Bears are crushing who they are supposed to. The competition gets a tougher in the next two games, away games at Nevada and at Arizona. On the road in Reno, is the first big test for this team. We should see what this team is really made of. I think they have the best chance for getting upset.

Oregon – I would argue they should be ranked #1 after this weekend. By far, they had the most impressive week one win of all title contenders. 72-0 against University of New Mexico! Then, they turn around and fly to Tennessee and beat the Vols 48-13! Oregon was supposed to blow out these teams, but still completely dominated and beat everyone’s expectations. It looks like they will easily win the conference title this year, and we should expect to see the Ducks playing for the national title. The next two games should be more blowouts. First is Portland State, a division 1-AA team. Then, they are on the road against Arizona State.

USC- Lots of questions have arisen after watching the Trojans play in the first two games. We expected them to win the first two games, which they did, but we didn’t expect to see the Trojans have as much trouble as they did. Hawaii hung around all game against the Trojans. The offense looked great, but the expected vaunted defense looked terrible and couldn’t get a stop. Tonight against Virginia, they offense looked weak, and the defense was able to hold the Cavaliers offense just enough for the Trojans to squeak by. But conditioning seems to be a problem with the Trojans. Players are constantly out of breath, and discipline is weak. Both games, the Trojans have had more than ten penalties for more than 100 yards. The question arises whether this team will win tough, gritty games all year, assert their dominance, or be far worse than we all thought. The next two weeks should be blowouts, on the road against Minnesota, and on the road against Washington State, two of the worst teams in the country. If the Trojans don’t crush these two teams, then it will be safe to say that this team is going to finish in the middle of the pack in the pac-10.

I actually thought the Vols were going to win after the first half they had. Oregon was having some major troubles stopping the run. I guess that’s why they play 4 quarters. I think the will go up in the rankings this week, but don’t crack the top 3. Very impressive win though.
