It is the Super Bowl, so the Guru will break down his prediction of who will win the Super Bowl like he has no other game this season. Not only will I give you who will cover, but an extremely rare under over prediction as well. Over the past five years there have been some memorable Super Bowls, such as Super Bowl XLIV Giants vs the Patriots, XXXIX the Patriots vs the Eagles, and last years memorable game the Steelers vs the Cardinals. This years game has the potential to be better than all of them.
Quarterbacks
Brees vs Manning.
Stats that you will want to know for your Super Bowl Party; One very under looked stat for Quarterbacks is their completion percentage. No surprise hear, both quarterbacks rank one and two in the league. Brees at 70.6 and Manning at 68.8, both mind blowing. The next stat I look at is their touchdowns vs interceptions. Brees 34-11, and Manning was 33-16, extremely impressive for both QB’s. Comparing the stats you can say Brees had a slightly better year than Manning. I give a slight edge to Manning however, nobody in my life time has control over a offense like Peyton. He puts defenses on their heels, and changes the way coaches calls plays. If you don’t believe me go ask Bill Belichick about his controversial call to go for it on forth down deep in their own territory, when the Patriots played the Colts earlier this year.
Guru’s ranking- Brees 9.5, Manning 10
Running Game
Joseph Addai and Donald Brown vs Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush
Stats that you will want to know for your Super Bowl Party; Rushing attempts per game favors the Saints. They rush the ball 29.2 times a game, which ranks 6th among all NFL teams. The Colts 22.9, dead last in the NFL. In fact the Colts have only had 7 runs the entire year over 20+ yards. The Saints average 131 yards a game vs the Colts who are dead last in the NFL averaging 80 yards a game. The stats favor the Saints hands down in all categories. Both Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas have big play potential, and Bush has been running like a man on a mission during the playoffs. The Colts rush just enough to keep defenses honest for play action pass
Guru’s ranking- Thomas and Bush 8.7 vs Addai and Brown 6.8
Wide Receivers
Garcon,Collie and Wayne vs Colston, Henderson, and Meachem
Stats that you will want to know for your Super Bowl Party; The Colts big three combined for 21 receiving touchdowns vs the Saints 20 touchdowns. This one is a coin flip for me. All six wide receivers serve a purpose in the passing game for their perspective team. I give a slight edge to the Colts since Reggie Wayne is the best of all six receivers.
Guru’s Ranking-Carcon, Collie, and Wayne 9.1, Colston, Henderson, and Meachem 8.9
Tight Ends
Shockey vs Clark
Stats that you will want to know for your Super Bowl Party; Clark had 100 receptions this year, 14 of them went for over 20+ yards vs Shockey’s 48 receptions and 7 of them went for over 20+ yards. Both Tight Ends are excellent, Clark however more consistent and the best TE in the league this year.
Guru’s ranking- Clark 9.8, Shockey 8.4
Offensive Line
Saints O-line vs Colts O-line
Stats that you will want to know for your Super Bowl Party; The Colts have only given up 9 sacks this year while Peyton was at quarterback, while the Saints gave up 20 while Brees was at the helm. In terms of pass blocking the Colts get a serious edge, not to mention the experience factor in the super bowl will come into play. To only give up 9 sacks for the season is remarkable. Just to put that into perspective Aaron Rodgers and Big Ben were sacked 50 times each this season. The Colts strength is in pass blocking but are very weak in run blocking. Where the Saints are more consistent in both run and pass blocking. Saints get the slight edge.
Guru’s Ranking- Saints O-Line 9.3, Colts O-Line 9.2
